Ocean freight is cost-effective for bulk jewelry but exposes cartons to weeks of humidity and temperature swings. Most transit damage is preventable with the right packaging decisions.

What Humidity Does
Moisture accelerates oxidation on brass, copper alloy and unsealed surfaces. Condensation inside cartons creates spotting that looks like plating failure. Cardboard itself holds moisture, adding to the problem in long transit.

Packaging Controls
Use silica gel packs sized to carton volume, not one sachet per box by default. Seal inner polybags properly so pieces are not exposed to container air. Add a moisture barrier liner between cartons and pallet wrapping.

On Arrival
Open cartons in a dry, ventilated area and let them acclimatise before unpacking. Inspect a sample from each carton for spotting before putting stock away. Record any moisture damage immediately with photos for carrier claims.
