Stainless steel is the workhorse of modern wholesale jewelry — durable, hypoallergenic-friendly and tarnish-resistant. But “stainless” varies. Here’s how to assess it on the bench.
Weight & feel. Quality steel has density and a cool, solid hand. Hollow or overly light pieces feel cheap and bend.
Finish. Edges should be smooth, solder joints clean, and plating (PVD gold) even with no peeling at corners. Run a fingernail across plated edges — lifted plating fails fast.
Construction. Soldered links should be flush; clasps spring firmly. On samples, wear-test for a week: real quality holds shine through water and skin.
Supplier questions. Ask about base alloy, plating method (PVD beats dip-plating for wear) and nickel content. Our stainless and titanium lines are built for everyday wear and ship with low minimums.
