REACH Compliance for Jewelry: The EU Buyer’s Checklist

Vintage Turquoise Daisy Copper Alloy Earrings - Wholesale

Selling jewelry into the EU means clearing REACH — the bloc’s chemicals regulation. For wholesale buyers, compliance is a documentation discipline, not a mystery.

What it covers. REACH restricts hazardous substances in products, including heavy metals (lead, cadmium, nickel release) and certain dyes in jewelry. Limits apply to the finished piece customers touch.

Your obligations. As importer/brand, you need a registered supplier declaration, material composition data, and test reports (often from an accredited lab) for restricted substances. Keep these on file per SKU.

Nickel release. EU’s Nickel Directive (part of REACH) caps nickel released from skin-contact parts — a core reason our nickel-free lines exist.

Action. Request a REACH compliance statement with every new supplier, and re-test on material changes. This pairs with our existing EU/US compliance primer on the blog.
